Gap between how patients want to learn vs actually do learn about clinical trials

Patients would prefer to learn about relevant clinical trials from their family physician. In a recent large survey 52% of patients seeking information about clinical trials would prefer to learn about clinical trials from their family physician but only 20% actually do.

Gap between how patients want to learn vs actually do learn about clinical trialsIn numerous studies we’ve conducted, physicians not only are unaware of nearby clinical trials, they are unaware of how they would learn about clinical trials. There is no standard pathway for physicians who are near clinical trials to become aware of them. Given this situation, it is surprising that even 20% of patients seeking information about clinical trials learn of them through their PCP.

There are many reasons for this gap. We believe that with concerted effort the barriers can be lowered. If addressed successfully many more patients would learn of clinical trials. On a case-by-case basis, we work with our clients to develop approaches to increase awareness of trials by physicians near clinical trial sites. There is no single answer, but progress is possible.
